At ICON AI 2025, Glow AI joined an industry-academia session to share practical experience from applying artificial intelligence to visual quality inspection. The discussion brought together researchers, industry practitioners, and academic leaders to explore how AI can be developed, tested, and applied in real manufacturing environments.

On March 10, Wei Siong Tan was invited to speak at a career day event for a group of enthusiastic third graders, introducing them to one of the most important technologies shaping their future: artificial intelligence.

The session was designed to make AI accessible, relatable, and engaging for young students. Rather than focusing on technical definitions, the talk introduced AI through simple examples that connected with everyday life.

One example asked students to imagine a basket filled with different fruits. If an AI system needed to identify an apple, how would it learn what an apple looks like? How would it practice? How would people check whether it had learned correctly?

Through this simple scenario, students were introduced to the basic ideas behind training, validation, and testing. The goal was not to turn complex AI concepts into a lecture, but to help students understand that AI is not magic. It is a technology that people build, teach, test, and improve.

The discussion also encouraged students to think about the world they will grow up in. AI is expected to become a regular part of daily life, influencing how people learn, work, communicate, and solve problems. As access to information becomes faster and more affordable, the skills that matter most may also change.

In that future, creativity, critical thinking, curiosity, judgment, and problem-solving will become increasingly important. AI may help people find answers more quickly, but young learners will still need to ask good questions, think independently, and use technology responsibly.

The session also highlighted the role of parents and educators in preparing children for this shift. Supporting the next generation is not only about exposing them to new tools. It is also about helping them understand boundaries, safety, responsibility, and the ethical use of technology.

AI has the potential to improve productivity, healthcare, learning, and problem-solving. For young students, early exposure to these ideas can help make the future feel less intimidating and more full of possibility.
